How to Delete a Section or Category PDF Print E-mail

A section is the top organizational level in Joomla.  It holds categories and articles.  Categories divide sections into smaller groups. For example, this article is in the section Tutorials Database, which holds all tutorials in all categories.  This article is also in the category Joomla.  So if you only wanted to see Joomla tutorials you would navigate to the Joomla category in the Tutorials Database section.

The following steps are used to delete a Section or Category:

 

1) Once you are in the Section or Category Manager (see How to Add a Section or Category, Step 1), place a check in the box of the article(s) you would like to delete.

 

2) Click the "Delete" button.

 

The section or category will be permanenetly deleted instantly, so double check that you are deleting the correct one(s).

The steps for adding a Section and adding a Category are very similar:

 

1) If you are on the Welcome page (the page you are sent to after logging in), you can click the large "Section Manager" or "Category Manager" button:

If you are in any other area of Joomla, you can hover your cursor over the word "Content" in the top left corner.  Other options will appear when you do this.

*Note:   The other options will only appear if you are not in edit mode, which is denoted with the word [Edit] next to the title of the page you're on.  Example: "Article:  [Edit]" or "User:  [Edit]"

Click either "Section Manager" or "Category Manager."

 

2) Click the "New" button.

 

3) You can now add content to the new section or new category page.

 

or

 

4) When you are done adding content, click the "Save" button.  This will save your changes and exit the article editor. 

If you would like to save without exiting the article, you can click "Apply."  Then click "Save" when you are ready to exit the article editor.

To delete an article:

 

1) Once you are in the Article Manager (see How to Edit an Article, Step 1), place a check in the box of the article(s) you would like to delete.

 

 

2) Click the "Trash" button.

To edit and existing article, follow these steps:

 

1) If you are on the Welcome page (the page you are sent to after logging in), you can click the large "Article Manager" button:

 

Or you can hover your cursor over "Content." Other options will appear when you do this.

*Note:   The other options will only appear if you are not in edit mode, which is denoted with the word [Edit] next to the title of the page you're on.  Example: "Article:  [Edit]" or "User:  [Edit]" 

Then click "Article Manager."

 

2) Once in the Article Manager, click the name of the article you wish to edit:

 

3) Now you can edit your article:

 

4) Once you are satisfied with your changes, click "Save."  This will save your changes and exit the article editor. 

If you would like to save without exiting the article, you can click "Apply."

 An article is a webpage.  Articles are organized into categories and sections.   A section is the top organizational level in Joomla.  It holds categories and articles.  Categories divide sections into smaller groups. For example, this article is in the section Tutorials Database, which holds all tutorials in all categories.  This article is also in the category Joomla.  So if you only wanted to see Joomla tutorials you would navigate to the Joomla category in the Tutorials Database section.

 To add an article in Joomla:

 

If you are on the Welcome page (the page you are sent to after logging in), you can click the large "Add  New Article" button:

If you are already in the Article Manager, click the "New" button:

 

3) A new article will open and you can begin entering text, images, or code. Be sure to select a Section and Category for your article to be saved in.

 

4) When you are done, click the "Save" button.  This will complete the article adding process by saving your content and it will exit the article editor. 

If you would like to save without exiting the article, you can click "Apply."  Then click "Save" when you are ready to exit the article editor.
